Tui holiday rep in serious condition after acid attack

A Tui rep is in a serious condition after being attacked with acid in an Algarve holiday resort.

Eleanor Chessell, 29, is understood to have suffered second and third degree burns to more than 50% of her body after the attack on Saturday night in Alvor, near Portimao in Portugal.

She was taken to hospital in Lisbon, where she is said to be in a “serious” condition.

Police are believed to be hunting an ex-boyfriend who is thought to have been involved in planning the attack.

Nearly two litres of acid is reported to have been thrown on Chessell, who is from the Isle of Wight, as she walked back to the hotel where she worked.

Tui has released a statement following the attack. It said: “Sadly we can confirm that one of our holiday reps has been involved in a serious incident in Portugal. Our resort team are fully supporting our colleague and are co-operating with the police investigation currently taking place by local police.

“We would like to reassure our customers that this is an isolated incident and situations like this are extremely rare.”
