Brexit pushes up cost of business travel

The cost of business travel has gone up for some UK corporations since the Brexit vote six months ago, a new study reveals.

Sixteen per cent of UK business travel buyers have seen prices rise in the period since the European referendum, against 6% across continual Europe.

A poll of 178 travel buyers, including 61% from the UK, were asked: “What impact will Brexit have on client confidence and buying behaviours?”

Eleven per cent on mainland Europe are playing the waiting game and holding off from investing in travel. This compares to just 4% in the UK.

Eighty per cent of British buyers believe it is a case of ‘business as usual’, slightly fewer than the 83% in the rest of Europe, according to the poll for the Business Travel Show.

Event director David Chapple said: “The UK’s decision to leave the EU has created many questions about the future, and corporate travel is no exception.”
