Eight reported dead following mass shooting in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico

A government alert to British holidaymakers has been issued after a deadly mass shooting at the Mexican resort of Playa Del Carmen.

At least eight people are reported to have been killed and 15 injured after shots were fired in at least one nightclub during the BPM dance festival in the early hours of this morning local time.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office said: “There have been reports of a shooting in the Blue Parrot nightclub in Playa Del Carmen in Quintana Roo state.

“British embassy staff are urgently looking into this. If you’re in the area, you should follow the advice of the local authorities.

“If you’re worried about a friend or family member, contact the Foreign and Commonwealth Office on 020 7008 1500.”
