Baggage restrictions put families off travelling abroad

Baggage restrictions are making it more difficult for families with small children to take a holiday abroad, according to a survey by The Co-operative Travel.

A total of 39% of respondents to the online survey said airlines' baggage restrictions make it hard to take childcare essentials with them on holiday.

Parents also said difficulties getting on board the flight, moving around the airport, and a lack of facilities at hotels, made it hard for them to travel with children.

As a result, 44% of parents wait until their child is over five years old before taking them on a foreign holiday. It was also revealed that 82% of families choose short-haul holidays to avoid complications.

The Co-operative Travel director of retail distribution Trevor Davis said: "This survey reveals that many parents simply aren't getting the help they need to make the most of their holiday."

The study was conducted from July 22-28 and is based on 748 responses.
