Weak pound pushes hotel prices up
The weak value of the pound has led to an average increase in hotel prices of 15% across Europe compared with last year.
The trivago Hotel Price Index shows that the price of an overnight stay in a standard double room in Europe will cost an average of £107 this month - a 15% increase on May 2008.
The cost of staying in UK hotels has risen the most, with a double room in London costing £130, 8% more than in April.
It is only slightly cheaper to cross the Channel for a holiday. The price of a standard double room in Paris fell by 7% this month to £127.
Cannes saw the highest monthly increase of 27% to £121, probably due to the Cannes International Film Festival. The most expensive European city in May is Geneva, at £180 for a double room.
The trivago Hotel Price Index shows the average overnight accommodation prices for the most popular European cities.
The average prices for a standard double room are calculated on the basis of 40,000 daily price enquiries for overnight hotel stays.
