Jackie David reports on football World Cup preparations in South Africa and news from Namibia's national carrier

(30 October 2008)

Air Namibia aircraftGambian Tourism Authority (AF4750)

The Gambian Tourism Authority will be promoting its development of ecotourism initiatives at World Travel Market. It will also be highlighting investment in infrastructure and in four and five-star properties, such as the recently opened five-star Sheraton Gambia Hotel and the Coco Ocean Resort and Spa, opening this autumn.

Namibia Tourism Board (AF1500)

Air Namibia will be joining the Namibia Tourism Board’s stand, where it will be celebrating its 60th anniversary. As the sole operator of non-stop flights between Gatwick and Windhoek, it will be flying the flag for Namibia – described as “a gem for those in search of the wilderness”.

South African Tourism stand (AF3200)

Meanwhile, over on the South African Tourism stand representatives will be on hand to discuss preparations for the 2010 Fifa World Cup. Agents can learn more about the accommodation on offer, tour operator programmes and the transport infrastructure put in place for the tournament.

Ugandan Tourism Board (AF2640)

Riding on the wave of success following its hosting of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting last year, Uganda is promoting itself as a tourism hotspot. The Ugandan Tourism Board will be on hand at the show to detail the country’s increased security, higher bed capacity and attractions such as its national parks.

Egyptian Vacation Club (ME3925)

The Egyptian Vacation Club has announced the opening of what it said is the only apartment hotel by the sea in Sharm el-Sheikh and the renovation of the Sharm Club hotel.

It is also working on two Egyptian-Italian joint ventures. The first project is in Marsa Alam and will consist of a club, hotel and a boutique hotel. The second project is on the Mediterranean coast of Egypt, near Al Alamein, and will consist of a club, apartment hotel and real estate.
