Flight Centre plans to expand niche businesses

(29 October 2008)

Flight Centre plans to expand its niche businesses over the next few years.

The chain's specialist businesses, most of which operate out of offices at the back of its high-street shops, deal with bookings nationwide. Each has its own website to drive sales, such as roundtheworldexperts.co.uk.

Its focus is on round-the-world trips, first and business-class travel and the corporate market.

Head of marketing Steve Norris said: "Over the next one to three years, we will identify locations where we can open more of these direct businesses because of the low overheads."

Although Flight Centre markets itself as a tailor-made long-haul specialist, 40% of total turnover is for sales to Europe. It has a repeat customer base of 60%.
