A group of Shearings customers have continued a coach tour after being caught in a fatal pile-up on Sunday.

The 36-strong group had departed from the UK on Saturday before it was in collision with the crash just outside Metz which killed one 70-year-old Frenchman and left a further 39 injured.

None of the group or the bus’s two drivers were hurt and, after spending a second night in Metz, where two of the operator’s staff were on hand to counsel the group, all have resumed the nine-day tour.

A Shearings spokesman said: “Trained Shearings representatives flew out to France on Sunday to speak to all of the passengers and ensure that everything was in place for the group to depart for Italy.

“All of the passengers have had the chance to speak one-to-one with the representatives and were able to call home free of charge to speak to relatives and update them on their holiday plans.

“All of the passengers stayed overnight in a hotel in Metz and are continuing with their journey to Lake Garda.”
