A British doctor has been shot dead on honeymoon in Antigua.

Catherine Mullany, formerly Bowen, was killed during a robbery at Cocos Hotel at 5am on Sunday morning. Her husband Benjamin is in a critical condition after being shot in the neck.

Police said one or more intruders had broken into the couple's cottage at 5am.

The Foreign Office has said the families had been informed and police have launched an investigation.

The couple, both reported to be aged 31, were from the Pontardawe area of South Wales. They were travelling independently.
