Carnival Splendor to be named today

(10 July 2008)

Carnival Splendor is due to be named today by new godmother Myleene Klass in Dover port.

Musician Klass will be helped in her bottle-breaking duties by Royal Navy divers in front of hundreds of onlookers from the travel trade.

The cruiseline is abandoning with tradition by smashing a bottle of English sparkling wine instead of French champagne agains the ship's hull.

The 113,000 tonne Carnival Splendor will be the largest passenger ship to sail from Dover's cruise port.

Among those on board will be Travel Weekly Cruise Club travel agents Martin Hays, Adele Parry and Holly Warner. Look out for their reviews on travelweekly.co.uk next week.
