Shearings Holidays expands hotel portfolio

(08 July 2008)

Shearings Holidays has expanded its hotel portfolio with the acquisition of three hotels.

Although known  for its position in the coach holiday sector, Shearings has recently launched a £25 million investment plan in its hotel estate.

The St George Hotel in Harrogate, the George Hotel in Chollerford and the Eden Arms Hotel in Rushyford have all been categorised within Shearings’ new three-tiered structure, which rationalises the company’s hotels into the three categories of Coast and Country, Classic Collection and Value Collection.

Shearings Holidays chief executive Denis Wormwell said changing demands in the market were behind the move.

“Increasingly our hotels are attracting more independent travellers who are looking for quality and value for money.

“In an economic climate where the strength of the Euro puts people off travelling abroad, it makes sound commercial sense to commit our resources to expand our hotel portfolio.”
