(24 June 2008)

As many as one in 10 people are predicted to attend an overseas wedding within the next year, a new survey has revealed.

Undertaken by online survey company TickBox on behalf of Thomas Cook and Travelex, the survey of 1,054 respondents has revealed that 23.9% of overseas wedding invitations have been sent to 16 to 24 year olds.

It has also shown 60% of these overseas wedding will take place in Europe, 15% in the US and the remaining 25% marry elsewhere.

Thomas Cook managing director of financial services Mark Nancarrow said: “In the last few years, we’ve seen a steady increase in demand for weddings abroad. Couples are keen to secure better weather and the option of stunning venues like castles in Italy.

“Guests also like to take advantage of the trip abroad by adding a few days on for an extra holiday.”
