Hurtigruten has withdrawn its ship Nordnorge from the Antarctic amid plans to sell one its cruise ships.

The cruiseline will instead use the ship on its traditional Norwegian coastal voyage route, while its newest ship Fram will instead operate all Antarctica cruises.

Head of commercial Kathryn Beadle said: “It is likely that our main company in Norway will sell one of its ships and this has meant that we need to keep Nordnorge in Norway to ensure the coastal voyage route is served 365 days a year.”

All customers will be able to rebook on to Fram, receive a 50% discount on sailings from October 2008 to March 2009, or receive a full refund.

Fram has been specifically for polar exploration. This coming winter will be the ship’s second season in the southern hemisphere.
