European theme parks are turning up the heat this summer with new rides and attractions. Alicia Gough reports

European theme parks saw record profits in 2007 and sales look set to increase this year as parks unveil new state-of-the-art attractions and impressive deals for 2008. Here's a round-up of what's new on the continent.

Siam Park, Tenerife

Tenerife is getting a new water park this summer. Siam Park will have 14 water attractions, including the gravity-defying Dragon, the Tower of Power and the plunging raft ride of the Mekong Rapids.

Younger children will enjoy the adventure world of the Lost City and the sea lions at the aquarium, while adults can hit the five bars and restaurants.

PortAventura, Spain

PortAventura has reopened its Caribbean-themed water park, Caribe Aquatic Park, offering UK customers a 50% discount for the rest of the year. The park is also building up a reputation as a business resort, with the addition of four golf courses and a convention centre.

Disneyland Resort Paris

Not only does 2008 see the launch of the thrill seekers' Twilight Zone Tower of Terror ride but Leger's new Disneyland Resort Paris brochure offers room discounts for couples and entrance savings for grandparents.

There is also a year-round Kids Go Cheap deal which makes it easier for families to book a break even during the school holidays.

Europa-Park, Germany

The 85-hectare theme park near Freiburg in Germany has expanded its England-themed area. The London Bus takes families back in time on an adventure to 19th-century England, while the Crazy Taxis offer an English twist on bumper cars.

Motor sports fans will enjoy the new 100 Years Grand Prix exhibition in the Mercedes-Benz Hall. Also new is Bamboe Baai, an Asian restaurant and the setting for the new dinner event, Pirates of Batavia, featuring acrobatic shows and dances.

Phantasialand, Germany

Situated in Brühl near Cologne, Phantasialand has launched some action-packed shows for 2008.

StreetXtreme is a stunt show featuring BMX bikes and breakdancing in the Silverado Theatre, and Arachnomé is a display of artistry and special effects. The whole family can also sing along to the musical greats in the new On Broadway show.
