TUI Travel buys long haul specialist Travelmood

(10 June 2008)

TUI Travel has bought long haul specialist Travelmood for an undisclosed sum.

The direct sell business, which has five retail shops and two call centres in the UK, will be run alongside TUI Travel’s other long haul brands Austravel and Trips Worldwide in the UK and Ireland specialist division.

The news, announced internally today, will boost TUI Travel’s portfolio of long haul destinations.

Travelmood specialises in Asia, South Africa, New Zealand and Australia.

A TUI Travel spokeswoman said: “Travelmood is similar to Austravel but the two brands will continue to exist. The rationale behnind the deal is that it will strengthen our long haul portfolio and add extra destinations.”

The operator will report into Redmond Walsh, managing director of Austravel and Trips Worldwide. Walsh reports into Ian Simpkins, managing director of the UK specialist division.
