ABTA launches text message alert service

(28 May 2008)

ABTA's text message alert service is set to go live tomorrow (Thursday).

The free service sends ABTA members text messages alerting them to serious global incidents that may affect their customers.

It also sends notification of changes to Foreign and Commonwealth Office travel advice, as well as press coverage which is likely to generate concern among customers.

During office hours ABTA will also email members any relevant information.

ABTA member operational support manager Susan Lamb said: “We will not bombard members with messages and will often refer to the ABTA website which will constantly be updated during an incident.

“We have set up the new ABTA Text Alert Service to help specialist members, who may not have the same out of office support mechanisms big tour operators have.

“We are introducing it in time for the peak summer and hurricane seasons and expect that information flow will be quicker and more efficient when we really need it.”
