The government department also revealed  there are no reports of any injuries or casualties of British tourists but confirmed it is working closely with  holiday company Kuoni who has a group of missing holidaymakers in the region. It would not confirm the number of tourists missing.

The earthquake which hit the south-western Sichuan Province has killed at least 10,000 people and left thousands trapped.
