ABTA and the Federation of Tour Operators (FTO) have agreed a merger starting July 1.

The boards of the two trade associations agreed the merger today which was mooted in the trade last year.

Andy Cooper will take on the role of head of development of ABTA. He will be looking at the future strategy for the newly merged  trade association.

The  two organisations are expected to operate out of the same offices, although this is unlikely to be finalised by July 1.

Mark Tanzer, chief executive of ABTA, confirmed: “The plan is to be working out of the same premises as is practicable.”
