As weddings at sea become more popular, couples from the north and those remarrying are the most likely to tie the knot on board a ship.
 
Cruise ship weddings have increased by more than 40% since P&O Cruises introduced ceremonies at sea in 2006.

P&O already has 246 weddings booked for 2008/09.

According to the report, more couples from the north of England are choosing to marry on ships than southern couples.

Three-quarters of couples booking wedding ceremonies on ships are marrying for at least the second time.

One of the big selling points for marrying on a cruise ship is the cost. The price of a P&O wedding is £948 and with all the optional extras (and honeymoon cruise) the cost is around £5,000 – still less than the average wedding in the UK.

P&O ship Oceana is its most popular vessel for UK cruisers to marry on. Last year it hosted 101 ceremonies.

Fellow Carnival UK brand Princess Cruises launched its ‘Tie the Knot’ brochure last year after seeing so many Brits get married on one of its 17 ships.
