Heathrow flights disrupted after BA crash

(18 January 2008)

Flight delays are continuing at Heathrow Airport after a BA aircraft crash-landed just short of the runway.

A total of 53 scheduled flights have been cancelled and many others, mostly short-haul, are delayed. Passengers travelling today are advised to contact their airline to check the status of their flight.

Meanwhile, prime minister Gordon Brown has praised the pilot and crew for their bravery and professionalism in managing to avert a major disaster. Investigators are currently trying to find out why the aircraft, which was carrying 150 people, crash-landed on Thursday.

British Airways chief executive Willie Walsh said: "All of the crew did a fantastic job evacuating the 136 passengers. They are all heroes and everyone at British Airways is very proud of them."
