Travel technology supplier Comtec looks for acquisitions

(06 December 2007)

Travel technology supplier Comtec is actively on the acquisition trail as it looks to build a business up to four times its current size.

Chief executive Simon Powell said Comtec was looking at several companies as potential acquisition targets in the market.

The move follows Amadeus' decision to withdraw its 20% stake in Comtec, acquired in early 2004. "This gives Comtec the freedom to grow the business," said Powell.

Powell predicts Comtec will be "three to four times" its current size within three to four years. Current customers include First Choice, Worldchoice and Travel Counsellors.

Meanwhile, in the UK, Comtec is to roll out Travelconnect, a new agency selling system that allows price comparisons, customer relationship management and booking management and will supercede its existing trade products. The new system will be formally launched at the Travel Technology show in February.

The news comes as Comtec beefs up its management team with the appointment of former Holiday Taxis managing director Neil Herbert as client relationship director from next week. At least one other new appointment is expected in the near future.
