Summer washout fails to dent hotel sales

(26 September 2007)

Despite this summer's torrential weather Blackpool saw a 67% rise in last-minute hotel bookings during August, according to laterooms.com.

The late-availability hotel specialist took more than 5,000 reservations during the month compared with just 3,000 in July.

In the same period last year, only 1,244 bookings were made despite a heatwave.

According to laterooms.com this consolidates Blackpool's position as a major UK attraction.

Laterooms.com development director Tony Walsh said: "Despite the washout, we have had some good weekends this summer. People no longer book their holidays months in advance. Now, our breaks can be arranged based on the weather forecast - so there are no unpleasant surprises."
