Travel agencies in the west and southeast of England have been closed and left without power following this week's floods.

Gloucester, where all multiples have branches, and Tewkesbury, where Thomas Cook and Travelcare have branches, were badly hit, but agencies around London also suffered damage.

Thomas Cook in Tewkesbury remained shut on Wednesday (26 July), with access roads and staff homes flooded. Calls were diverted to other stores. Going Places’ Gloucester branch was flooded and stayed closed this week.

Thomas Cook’s Gloucester branch was open but had no water supply. The group also suffered temporary closures in London, but a spokeswoman insisted the company was not seriously affected. “We have been lucky,” she said.

First Choice’s Gloucester shop was temporarily evacuated on Friday but did not shut.
Co-op Ultra in Gloucester, part of the Midcounties Co-operative, closed on Monday but reopened on Tuesday despite the fact water supplies were cut off.

A spokesman said: “We have to review the situation every few hours but the shop is open.”
