FIRST Choice has made Hayes and Jarvis managing director Maria Whiteman redundant.

Colleague Ged Kennedy, who was director of operations, has also gone in a major staff shake-up. Product manager Geoff Lawrence and 18 other UK and overseas staff are in talks with First Choice over their positions.

Managing director for the UK specialist division at First Choice Ian Simkins blamed the job losses on "challenging market conditions" and a need for Hayes and Jarvis to deliver on the First Choice business plan.

A refined business model is being implemented at Hayes and Jarvis to focus on more flexible itineraries and increased scheduled airline business.
