THE trade is spearheading a united campaign to revive bookings to Thailand as a result of the first crisis forum of its kind in the country following the tsunami.
Hoteliers in Phuket have responded to UK operators’ pleas by slashing rates by as much as £788 per couple in an effort to rescue peak season trade. In return, Thomas Cook Signature and Kuoni have promised to bring out special offer brochures for tsunami-hit destinations next month.
The action follows a frank debate at the forum, What Now For Thailand, where 120 hoteliers met a UK trade delegation at the Sheraton Grande Laguna in Phuket, hosted by the Tourism Authority of Thailand and Travel Weekly last weekend.
