BMI gambles on Las Vegas route

(22 July 2004)

BMI has confirmed it will launch a thrice-weekly service to Las Vegas from Manchester, as predicted by Travel Weekly (July 12).

The service will start on October 31, with flights on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, and target visitors to the city and to onward destinations such as Arizona and the Grand Canyon.

It has also enhanced its Caribbean schedule, which starts in November, with more direct, non-stop services.

St Lucia will now be served direct in both directions, removing a stop in Barbados, and operate on Mondays, which the company said will be attractive to the honeymoon market.

Twice-weekly flights to Barbados will now also operate direct and not via St Lucia.

Two extra round-trips have also been added to Barbados, on December 21 and January 8, to match seasonal demand.

BMI is developing Manchester as its international hub following frustrations in launching long-haul flights from Heathrow.

It has timed the services to link up with its domestic flights into Manchester from its other UK points.
