JetMagic suspends operations

(30 January 2004)

CORK-BASED regional airline JetMagic has suspended operations and an Extraordinary General Meeting is to be held to consider winding up the company.

Flight operations have been suspended on the recommendation of the carrier’s board of directors, and the company said in a statement it deeply regretted it had not proved to be a viable operation.

“Expected passenger demand did not materialise, especially in terms of business travel,” it said.

JetMagic also blamed competition on its most successful routes, including Alicante, Barcelona and Nice. Only Belfast City achieved satisfactory passenger levels for business routes, which also included Brussels, Paris and London City.

A formal meeting of creditors is being arranged. A free phone helpline has been set up on 00 353 214 518 915.
