Livingstone pledges £15 million for London recovery

(26 March 2003)

LONDON mayor Ken Livingstone has set aside £15 million to boost London tourism once the war is over.

Livingstone said the capital’s tourist industry has already seen a downturn in people coming into the city because of the war, with business travel particularly hit. “Hotel occupation isn’t too bad at the weekend, but during the week it is way down,” he said.

The Greater London Authority has predicted the capital stands to lose £500 million due to the war, and anything up to £10 billion if attacked by terrorists.
