Airlines extend flexible fares policies

(21 March 2003)

AIRLINES have extended their flexible booking policies as the war in Iraq threatens to send passenger numbers into freefall.

British Airways and United Airlines have extended the cut-off date for their policies, while Air Canada has added extra flexibility, allowing passengers to return to their departure airport immediately.

BMI has introduced flexible fares on its Manchester to Chicago route, while Singapore Airlines has also introduced a policy in response to both the war and the flu outbreak.

BA head of sales Tiffany Hall said the policy had helped BA avoid a slump in bookings.
