FCO calls on trade to stop Greece rapes

(31 January 2003)

THE number of British holidaymakers raped in Greece has rocketed, prompting the Foreign and Commonwealth Office to appeal to operators for closer co-operation.

Attacks have doubled in four years, with 34 reported cases of rape against UK nationals last year. Worryingly, the FCO also revealed that serious violent crimes against Brits had almost trebled since 1998.

Club 18-30, which achieved high-profile coverage following the infamous sun, sea and sex Club Reps TV show based in Faliraki, Rhodes, said it already liaised closely with the FCO, but Greece had particular problems.
