virgin to launch tobago and grenada flights

(23 August 2002)

VIRGIN Atlantic has confirmed it is to launch direct weekly flights to Tobago and Grenada, as revealed in Travel Weekly (July 29).

The flights will operate from Gatwick and will begin next May. The carrier will add a weekly Manchester to Barbados flight next winter.

Sir Richard Branson said: “Virgin entered the Caribbean market in 1998, introducing services between Gatwick and Barbados, Antigua and St Lucia, and by the end of this year, we will have flown more than one million passengers on the Caribbean routes.”

* Virgin Atlantic blamed costs of £100 million following September 11 for annual pre-tax losses of £92 million to the end of April.

The previous year the airline made a £45.5 million pre-tax profit.
