kempinski goes to China

(31 May 2002)

HOTEL group Kempinski has signed a deal with a Beijing-based holding company which will see Kempinski hotels in China's major cities.

Under the joint venture - called Key International Hotels Management - Kempinski plans to manage around 20 three and four-star hotels under the Key International and Key Inn brands.

But it also hopes to have its own Kempinski name above the door of five-star properties in key cities like Shanghai and Nanjing.

Senior vice president sales and marketing Christopher Hartley said: "I believe China and India are the markets of the future and if you we get into these countries now we will be in good shape for when these markets take off."
