ryanair jet taken out of service

(28 February 2002)

RYANAIR has been forced to take an aircraft out of service after it appeared to catch fire as it was coming into land at Stansted airport.

Two passengers received minor foot injuries in the incident, which happened on flight number FR296 travelling from Dublin at 5.30pm yesterday.

Air traffic controllers notified the crew they could see smoke coming from one of the Boeing 737-800’s engines as it approached the airport.

The engine was shut down and the aircraft evacuated when it landed. Emergency slides were deployed to get passengers out and, apart from the two injuries, all passengers got out safely.

The aircraft has been taken out of service while the incident is investigated.
