afghani airline flies again

(24 January 2002)

AFGHANISTAN’S beleaguered national airline is reported to have made its first international flight in two and-a-half years.

The Ariana Afghan Airlines’ Boeing 727 has flown from Kabul to New Delhi, the Ananova website is reporting.

The jet carried 12 crew and 13 passengers, including Afghanistan’s minister for tourism.

International flights were suspended in 1999 following sanctions imposed by the United Nations against the Taliban regime.
