US cruiseline files for bankruptcy

(25 October 2001)

AMERICAN Classic Voyages – the largest US-flagged cruiseline – has ceased trading and filed for bankruptcy.

But the collapse will affect less than 10 UK passengers with future bookings.

The cruiseline, best known this side of the Atlantic for its American Hawaii Cruises brand, operated the 1,214-passenger Patriot and 798-passenger Independence out of Hawaii. Clients aboard have continued their trips as normal.
