Airtours and Going places five reach deal

(26 September 2001)

LEGAL action between Airtours and the Going Places Five has been dropped following an out of court settlement between the two sides.

The solicitor representing the five, Maureen Singleton of Leeds-based Brooke North said: “My clients are pleased that they have now resolved matters and received the confirmation that they were well respected and valued employees whose employment came to an end through no fault of their own.”

The executives; former sales director Trevor Davies, property and estates manager David Sleath, corporate development director Tracy Turczak, head of retail operations Mandy Davis and head of sales Cathy Jackson-Spence took action against Going Places’ parent company Airtours when their contracts were terminated during a reorganisation of GP earlier this year.

A confidentiality clause in the deal forbids the two sides from revealing how much money Airtours paid to the five, although it is understood to be in the region of £100,000 to each of them.  The five will not be reinstated.

A legal hearing scheduled for October 31 and an industrial tribunal planned for November 15 will not go-ahead.

Airtours chief executive Richard Carrick said: “I am very pleased that we have been able to resolve matters amicably, I have known these five individuals for a number of years and hold them in high esteem. Airtours wish them well in their future endeavours.”
