(22 November 2000)

Report by John Lavabre

THOMSON Travel Group is to create up to 1,000 jobs over the next three years with the opening of a new call centre in Glasgow.

The centre, which was opened today with a staff of 450, will play a central role in the Group’s strategy of providing customers with the choice of booking through the call centre, high street agencies or Web sites.

Group managing director Nigel David said: “The launch of Thomson Travel’s Glasgow call centre is excellent news for holidaymakers who want greater choice. Scotland has an excellent reputation for supporting call centre companies in the region.”

The centre will sell holidays from more than 130 tour operators and 113 scheduled and charter airlines, including Thomson’s own products.
